Rocky Mountain Ham Radio supported Douglas County ARES, District 24, for the Turkey Day 5K. This is an annual event that D24 supports, and RMHR is priviledged to contribute by providing its Command and Communications Trailer. 16 members of ARES District 24 volunteered to successfully provide communications support and course safety for the “Turkey Day 5k” in the early morning hours of November 22, 2012. D24 contributed 70+ man hours to the Highlands Ranch Chamber of Commerce, while utilizing a UHF Portable Repeater (W0RDR/R), 800MHz DTRS, Business Band VHF, APRS, and Digital ATV on 5GHz to manage the event. These provided real-time communications and video for race organizers, and communications with medical personnel and the ARES operators along the course. D24 manned 10 locations along the course, ensuring that the runners were safely running on the right path, and provided Digital ATV from 2 locations on the course. Randy Reynard, W0RDR, was D24’s Mission Coordinator for the event, and Daeron Cofer, KC0CNS, managed the D24 team as net control from the Comm Trailer.
