New Breckenridge Repeater!

2015-09-06 14.10.42Little did you know, Rocky Mountain Ham Radio had a UHF Repeater in the Breckenridge/Summit County area.  This repeater was seldom used and was an island unto itself.  As of September 12, 2015, the crack RMHR team added a new MotoTRBO linked repeater to the statewide system.  It is carrying talkgroups 700 and 720 (Rocky Mountain Wide and Central Talkgroups.)  This repeater is a permanent asset and will remain on the RMHAM network.  It was placed this year in preparation for the ARRL Rocky Mountain Division Convention next May 2016 at the Keystone Events Center in Dillon, CO.

The site is known as Baldy, and is at nearly 13000′ up in the tundra.  It blankets the Frisco, Breckenridge, Silverthorne, Dillon and Keystone areas as well as I-70 from the Eisenhower tunnel.  It also covers with a mobile to Rabbit Ears Pass near Steamboat!  We’re looking at other opportunities to expand the footprint of Rocky Mountain Wide but we’re in need of some partners to assist on this project.

Because our distances between sites is so great, and could be 6 hours end-to-end, it’s not really possible for us to expand the footprint much more than we already have.  If you have interest in expanding the network into your area please contact Doug Sharp, K2AD.
