Foxhunt Success!

On Sunday, Rocky Mountain Ham Radio launched its first high-power training fox hunt! With around 15 participants braving the suburban landscape of Centennial and Parker, Colorado, the event proved to be a great introduction to the exciting world of radio direction finding.

The 147 MHz fox, transmitting at 20W, presented a fun challenge. While designed to be approachable for newcomers, the suburban environment threw in some interesting twists with signal reflections and access limitations. Participants showcased their radio orienteering skills using a variety of techniques, including Yagi antennas, attenuators, and clever Doppler/TDOA units.

A big congratulations to Chris K0SWE for being the first to locate the fox! You can read about his experience, including his thoughts on the KrakenSDR, on his blog.

This event was a fantastic learning experience, and it’s given us some ideas to make future hunts even more exciting. Stay tuned for more details on upcoming RMHAM adventures!
