Early Saturday morning, two teams set out to repair and upgrade the link between Sunlight and Grand Mesa. John W0VG, Mark N7CTM, and Stephen W0ML, went to the Sunlight site, where they completed the repairs and upgrades quickly and were able to head home in the early afternoon. Mike K7AIH, and Glenn KE0UWC, had a longer trip to Grand Mesa and a more complicated route to the site. Because the Grand Mesa team had never visited the site in summer, they initially took a four-wheel-drive road that proved impassable because of a locked gate. After returning to the start of that road and researching a better route, they found a passable road to the site. Once there, the Grand Mesa team replaced the router, converter, and injector. They also tested several cables to verify that they were in working condition. After replacing the radio at the dish and an Ethernet cable, and after coordinating with Willem, AC0KQ, the link between Sunlight and Grand Mesa was established with good signal strength. Data flowed between the two points and the rest of the linked network. With the link working, the Grand Mesa team departed for the trip home in the early evening. This effort will help ensure a reliable link between Sunlight and Grand Mesa, especially during the winter months.
